my proposal-pre production

My film proposal

  1. Film synopsis:

My aim for this project is to make, almost a documentary of my experience through my pregnancy. This will include very emotional situations very personal to me. The dialogue will only be a voice over of me, explaining the situations which will be shown on the video. I have an idea to put music very low in the background so it is not completely my voice, this will also help develop sympathy and emotions over what they are witnessing throughout the video. The music will help set the mood that I aim to create. The point of this is to let people into my life and understand the struggles and problems girls face with young pregnancies. In addition to this I want this to result in any girl who is facing these problems to know, they are not alone, and there is so many worse things that could’ve happened to them and that it not the end of the world.

  1. The logline:

After an unexpected turn on Emily’s life, discovering she is pregnant, at the age of 17, to someone she did not love seemed life ending, the worst thing to have ever happened to her. The next nine months of her life was like a slap from reality. This documentary shows the highs and the lows of her experience and show the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for anyone feeling the same way she felt.

  1. screenplay structure:
Act 1:
Discovery: Emily discovers she is pregnant; this will be the disruption to the equilibrium. Her feelings, behavior will all be shown negatively in this first act.

Act 2:
journey throughout pregnancy (the slow realization): with the support and happy times ahead including her loving family, Emily begins to realize that the future ahead of herself, doesn’t seem as bad as she thought at the beginning. However, she still has a little bit of negativity to the idea of having a child. This represents the fixing of the disruption to the equilibrium.

Act 3:
Journeys end and a new one begins: as months go on Emily’s pregnancy slowly comes to an end and It's time to welcome her baby into the world. Equilibrium is fixed.

  1. characters:

the only characters in this film is my family and friends, including myself. they will all be playing who they are in reality, for example, my boyfriend would be playing. My boyfriend. This is due to the fact it’s about my life.
People involved:

HEATHER ALLAN DUGGAN        (mother)
DAVID DUGGAN                          (father)
HANNAH ELIZABETH DUGGAN (sister)
CARL ROUSE                                 ( Hannah’s boyfriend)
LEON PAUL WHITE                      ( Emilys boyfriend)
EMILY LOUISE DUGGAN             ( myself)

  1. film treatment

after the unexpected turn occurs on Emily’s life, she is left feeling empty, disappointed and depressed. Nothing felt right to her anymore, she felt like she lost everything. People would tell her “your life is ruined” she believed it. she thought everything she dreamed of was gone. at this point she did not know what she really wanted to do with her life, she just knew she wanted to travel and get tattoos.

With the help of her family and super loving boyfriend, her depression over the situation started to slowly drift away, she describes it as a dark cloud over her head, slowly passing.  She attends scans to see her child, fun trips out to shop for the baby and herself leave her feeling fulfilled and the excitement slowly creeps into her life .

As the days go on her pregnancy comes to an end and the full realization that she is to become a mother has fully sank in and can held her head high and be proud of who she is. Is no longer believes she has ruined her life , as when she found out she was pregnant her life was just beginning , now she just created a new future , a one she is certain to love .

6. Target audience:

my target audience is going to be more specifically around women from the ages of  15 years and onward. This is due to the plot of the film. with the target audiences age in mind, the psychographics of my target audience, would vary from: reformers ( people who seek enlightenment and freedom of restrictions and personal growth), stragglers( people who seek escape and few resources beyond physical skills), and potentially explorers ( people who seek discovery, energy, individualism and experience). when looking at the demographics of my audience, the social grades would vary around grades E ( people who depend on the welfare state for their income) and grade D (unskilled manual workers). personally, i think the unique selling point of my film, would be when Emily opens up and finally accepts her situation, and realizes that it isn't the end of the world and it's actually quite a good thing.
